A pontifical resin incense built on a striking rose perfume layered over balsamic resins and aromatic oils drawn from all five continents.
The blend was created for World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro and was first used by Pope Francis at the opening of his pontificate. Four intentions were folded into its composition: to represent the prayers of Christians and people of goodwill across the world; to return those blessings through the grace of God; to unite the faithful in a single, indissoluble cloud of prayer; and to expand the fragrance of Christ to the ends of the earth. The five-continent sourcing of the aromatic oils is the literal expression of that last intention.
The phrase Urbi et Orbi — "to the City and to the World" — is the formal address given by the Pope from the central loggia of Saint Peter's Basilica on Christmas Day, Easter, and the day of his election. It carries the apostolic blessing beyond Rome to the whole Church and, by the same gesture, to all of humanity. The blend is intended to accompany that gesture: a Roman incense for a global blessing.
