A full-bodied resin incense honoring Saint Benedict of Nursia, the father of Western monasticism, built around the warm, balsamic note of storax.
The blend takes its character from storax — one of the most distinctive resins in the Western liturgical tradition — and carries it at a high 5/5 intensity that fills a sanctuary with deep, sustained smoke. The black grains echo the Benedictine habit: a quiet visual cue for an order whose pattern of work and prayer has shaped Catholic liturgy and Western culture for fifteen centuries.
Saint Benedict was born around 480 in Nursia, Italy. He withdrew from Roman life as a young man to live as a hermit at Subiaco, eventually founding the great monastery of Monte Cassino in 529. His Rule — short, practical, and humane — became the foundation of Western monasticism and one of the most influential documents in European history. He was declared Patron of Europe by Pope Paul VI in 1964; his feast falls on July 11th, and the Saint Benedict Medal remains one of the most widely used Catholic sacramentals.
