A floral resin incense honoring Our Lady Untier of Knots (Nossa Senhora Desatadora dos Nós), built on a marked perfume of roses with the deep, intense character of Franciscan incense.
The blend pairs a soft rose top with the warmer, more enveloping body of the classic Franciscan resin tradition, set at a 4/5 intensity that carries well in chapels and family altars alike. It is composed as a homage to a Marian devotion in which the Virgin is asked to untie the knots of sin, conflict, and family difficulty that no one else can loosen.
The devotion arose in Germany in the 18th century, inspired by a painting in the Church of Saint Peter am Perlach in Augsburg showing the Virgin patiently untying a long ribbon of knots. It remained a regional German devotion until the young Argentine Jesuit Jorge Mario Bergoglio — the future Pope Francis — encountered it during studies in Germany in 1986 and brought it back to Latin America, where it spread rapidly through Argentina and then across the Catholic world after his election to the papacy in 2013.
