The phrase Duc in altum was made famous in the modern Church by Pope John Paul II's apostolic letter Novo Millennio Ineunte at the close of the Great Jubilee of 2000, where he addressed it to the whole Church entering the third millennium. The image of Peter's boat on the Sea of Galilee has remained one of the most enduring symbols of Catholic mission ever since.
