A pontifical resin incense built on six liturgical notes — olibanum, myrrh, balsamic storax, nard, rose, and lavender — released to mark the opening of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV.
The blend takes its name from the encyclical Pacem in Terris of Saint John XXIII, and each ingredient is keyed to one of the four pillars of peace set out in that document: olibanum for truth, myrrh and balsamic storax for justice, nard and rose for charity, and lavender for liberty in Christ. The composition also draws on the earlier liturgical blends Urbi et Orbi, Misericordiae, and Benedictus XVI, making it both a tribute to the new pontificate and a continuation of the liturgical tradition that preceded it.
Pacem in Terris was issued in April 1963, the first papal encyclical addressed not only to Catholics but to "all people of good will." Written during the height of Cold War tension, it set out a framework for peace founded on truth, justice, charity, and liberty in Christ — and remains a foundational text of modern Catholic social teaching. The phrase itself is engraved on the tomb of Saint John XXIII in Saint Peter's Basilica.
